Honoring Ethiopian Patriots Day, 5 May
In order to respect and honor our host country’s holidays, the Board of Governors and the ICS leadership have agreed to observe Patriots Day and make it a school holiday for all students and staff. We hope you all have a good day with family and friends.

Holiday Changes for Next School Year 2016–17
In following the same philosophy, we have made slight changes to next year’s calendar as well. There will continue to be 182 student learning days. The two changes are:
October break was 15–24 October, returning to school on Tuesday, 25 October. This is CHANGED to 15–23 October, with students returning on Monday, 24 October.
2 March, Victory at Adwa, is a teacher work day and there is NO school for students

Annual Fund Campaign
Our first Annual Fund campaign will end this week. Our goal was to raise $30,000 for two projects that will help ICS achieve even more in the areas of elementary reading instruction and with our robotics and “maker” spaces for older students. 44% of our teachers participated and 9% of our parent community. I will be reporting on our results next week and at the AGM, but a quick hint is…you rock, ICS community!
If you wanted to contribute but just never got around to it, now is the time to come by the Administration Building to give your support.
Vote for our Board
Our Board plays a very important role in collaborating on leadership and governance with the Head of School and other school leaders. They approve building projects, review and approve our budgets, and review program and learning results and make recommendations. I appreciate the time and attention they give us; ultimately we are a better school because of their support, their vision and their decision making.
Please vote in April. Elections for open seats for our Board of Governors will be held online, in person at the Administration Building, and at the Association’s General Meeting (AGM) at 7:00 PM on 13 April. A packet with candidate and voting information will be sent out to all association members later this week. This year we are adding a two-minute video speech by each candidate, and links will be included in the election packets.
If there are any open seats remaining, or if an elected Board member has to leave before finishing his/her term of service, the Board can appoint members to fill those seats. Again, let a sitting Board member (or myself) know of your interest in volunteering in this manner.
Parent Association’s General Meeting (AGM)
Our Association’s General Meeting is at 7:00 PM on Wednesday 13 April. We will be in the Upper Commons. Snacks, soft drinks, wine and beer will be provided.
Our agenda for the AGM includes a report on our financial results for this school year, and information about next year’s tuition and fees. I will also provide an update on student learning, school programs and other initiatives. Of course, a very important agenda item is elections for our Board.
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions of our Board and the Head of School. I look forward to seeing many Association members at the AGM.
