News for the Week
The ICS libraries will be closed this Saturday, 14 May, due to an ICS staff retreat. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Nile Book Awards!
For the first time ever, our elementary school library participated in a children’s choice book award. Since late January, volunteer student readers in grades 2 through 5 have been madly reading and reviewing four nominated titles in two book categories; the Blue Nile category for grades 2/3 and the White Nile category for grades 4/5. Librarians from participating schools (ICS, Khartoum American School, Khartoum International Community School, International School of Uganda and The International School of Tanganika) preselected the books.
White Nile titles:
Beasts of Olympus: Beastkeeper by Lucy Coates
Operation Bunny: Wings and Co. by Sally Gardner
Princess in Black by Shannon Hale
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes
Blue Nile titles:
Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff
The Big Wish by Brandon Robshaw
El Deafo by Cece Bell
Witchworld by Emma Fischel
This past Friday, our readers came together to enjoy some Embwa ice cream and vote individually for their top book choice. The secret votes have been tallied and winning titles will be announced at this week’s elementary school assemblies. ICS will share also their results with other participating Nile Book Award schools in Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.
All of the Nile Book Award books are now available for everyone to read in the elementary library. Come check one out today!
Stay tuned for the 2016/2017 Nile Book Awards! And a huge thank you to our readers for their enthusiasm and for spreading the news about great books!
