High School News, David Redmond, Principal

Dear Parents,

Below please find important information on current and upcoming events in the High School.

Progress Reports and Goal Setting

Progress reports will be sent home during the week of 3 – 7 October and include important information on student’s academic progress, including Academic Achievement, Effort, and Comments from the teacher. Students, in collaboration with teachers, counsellors, and advisors use the Progress Report information to set appropriate learning goals and to inform instruction for the rest of the semester. This year, students will be working in Advisory to set their goals and will then share them with parents and teachers. Parents can expect an email from their children informing them of the subjects that students have prioritized and requesting them to attend a meeting with each of the three teachers during which the students will present their goals. This marks an important departure from past practice as now the student leads the conference rather than the teachers.

Student, Parent, Teacher Conferences

We are holding our conferences on 11, 12, and 13 October this year and we will once again use an online booking system to make appointments. This year, however, we are requiring students to lead three conferences. During these conferences, students will share their goals with teachers and parents, who will have an opportunity to listen and to ask questions. The goals will include clear targets as well as steps that should lead to improved academic performance. Students will inform their parents of which teachers they need to meet. Please note that we are asking parents to schedule appointments for these three teachers as a priority, and that students are required to lead the meetings. Parents may schedule meetings with other teachers as well in order to inquire about students’ progress. In the interest of efficiency and in order to accommodate a large number of meetings, we are asking parents to schedule meetings with teachers only in courses where the student requires significant improvement. For example, if a student is scoring top marks in the Progress Report, we do not feel that a meeting is necessary, as we believe that the meetings are more beneficial to address areas in need of improvement. We ask for parents’ cooperation in this regard. Further information about making appointments has been sent home earlier this week. Please contact us at if you have any problems making appointments or if you have any questions or concerns.

I look forward to seeing you at International Day this weekend as we celebrate our international heritage.

Please continue to read the weekly Yezare Samint for important information regarding our high school program, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at for any matter pertaining to your child’s education.
