Grade 8 Parent Night-Thank You

We want to extend a thank you to all parents of grade 8 students who were able to attend the "Welcome to High School" event on Monday night. It was a pleasure to meet you and we look forward to working with you closely as your students transition to high school.  We welcome all parents to access this link to the presentation to help guide your conversations at home with your students as they work through course selection.  Please don't hesitate to be in contact with our grade 9/10 counselor, Alicia Brown (, should you have any questions.

Community Time

This week's community time Grade 6 and 7 students worked on building their portfolios, getting work samples ready to show their growth. Grade 8 students took part in course selections for their transition to Grade 9 and High School next year.

Student-Led Conferences

Students have begun preparing their portfolios of their work in subject areas in order to prepare for the student-led conferences in April. Student-led conferences are opportunities for your child to share their learning this year with you. More information will be sent out in the coming weeks so parents understand the process and expectations of the activity. Your child is looking forward to sharing their learning with you!

Sun Protection

Just a reminder that sunny days in Addis (and even overcast days!) are more intense than most other places due to altitude. Students have been reminded to wear hats and bring water bottles. This is especially important during PE, when students are participating in activities outdoors.

Thank you for reinforcing this message at home. Teachers have noticed an increase in the number of students being sun-conscious and taking care of themselves properly.

ISSEA Arts trips

Several of our middle school students will be joining the variety arts teams next week as they travel to participate in the Band and Choir Festival in Johannesburg and the Drama and Visual Arts Festival in Harare. All the best to our hard-working artists as they work with other students across the region in collaborative activities! We look forward to hearing and seeing some great projects!

Spirit Week Success!

Big thank-you to our Student Leadership Council (STUCO) and grade 6 advisories for last week's Spirit Week activities. Students had a wonderful time showing their school spirit by dressing up and participating in events organized by their peers. Houses competed for points throughout the week and we ended the week with the MS Social, organized by our STUCO. Loads of fun and team-building in the MS last week.
