At ICS Addis, our commitment to service learning is deeply rooted in our mission to empower students to make a positive impact on our world and guided by our strategic plan to foster the development of global citizens. Service and community engagement are integral to the ICS Addis experience, woven into all subject areas from elementary through high school. Our goal is to nurture compassionate, proactive individuals who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society.

Service learning at ICS Addis connects classroom knowledge with real-world action.Whether it’s through a science project that addresses environmental challenges, a social studies initiative that explores community needs, or a creative arts project that raises awareness, students are encouraged to apply their learning to make a difference.

Our Stories

Service Learning from Early Years to Grade 12

From an early age, students engage in service activities that instill the importance of giving back. As they progress through the school, students can take the lead in creating their own student-led service projects, allowing them to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and drive change in areas they care about.

Our approach is enhanced by partnerships with local and international organizations, NGOs, and non-profits, which provide valuable insights and broaden the impact of our students' efforts. These collaborations connect our school community with a larger network of people working towards common goals, both locally and globally.

Examples of Student-led Service Clubs

Project Burayu

This club addresses critical issues like water scarcity, sustainability, and community well-being. It directly engages students in innovative and impactful service, mirroring ICS’s focus on making meaningful contributions to local communities and global challenges.

Enat Energy

Providing affordable renewable energy solutions to underserved communities is a powerful initiative that connects global challenges like climate change with local action. The focus on gender equality and economic development also aligns with ICS’s values of inclusivity and leadership.

Dot Connections

By fostering collaboration between NGOs and raising awareness for important causes, this club aligns with ICS’s mission to develop globally engaged and responsible citizens. Students for Sustainability (SFS)

As a club committed to environmental stewardship and sustainability, SFS supports ICS’s goal of becoming a greener institution. The club’s focus on education and hands-on projects ties into ICS’s educational philosophy and mission to prepare students for a sustainable future.

Project Mekedonia

The focus on supporting vulnerable populations through direct service and community engagement aligns with ICS’s vision of inclusivity, empathy, and making a lasting impact on the lives of others, particularly within the Ethiopian context.
