With choice and ownership over their learning, students are empowered to explore and excel in areas that matter most to them.

At ICS Addis, community engagement and service learning are integral parts of the Elementary School experience, especially as part of the PYP Exhibition. Students are encouraged to take meaningful action through the learning process, whether by supporting peers, contributing to school-wide initiatives, or engaging with local and global communities. The PYP framework emphasizes action, inspiring students to use their knowledge to make a positive impact. Through age-appropriate research and projects connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, students learn the importance of service and develop a strong sense of global citizenship. The Elementary School plays a large role in our annual NGO Fair, where students connect with, are inspired by, and plan projects around making an impact in our local and global communities.

At ICS Addis, we believe social-emotional development is foundational to academic success. Our learning spaces are designed to be safe, joyful, and engaging, fostering growth and achievement. We use data to inform instructional strategies, ensuring all students are on the path to success.

We value outdoor education, encouraging students to learn and play in green spaces. With movement-rich environments, including our playgrounds and physical education spaces, students are active learners. Play-based learning in Early Years 3 and 4, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, helps our youngest students engage in natural exploration and inquiry. Our older students have the opportunity to travel around Addis and experience Ethiopian culture as part of our Week Without Walls program.
