The International Community School of Addis Ababa is a not-for-profit school, dedicated to providing a world-class education for the international community in Addis Ababa.
Our educational staff are our most valuable resource, and your tuition fees allow us to hire and retain dedicated and experienced teachers and specialists from around the world. Over 80% of our expenditures are devoted to school personnel. We are also developing new facilities that highlight flexible learning spaces while maintaining the beauty of our green and spacious campus.

A tuition fee reduction is provided only on annual tuition and only to the third child and any subsequent children, starting from the child with the lowest tuition.
3rd child: five percent (5%) reduction in annual tuition
4th child: ten percent (10%) reduction in annual tuition
5th child and subsequent children: fifteen percent (15%) reduction in annual tuition
Parents/guardians are responsible that all tuition and fees are paid on time.
- Application fee is due during the application process.
- Payment by organizations: all tuition and fees due by 13 September 2019.
- Payment by individuals:
- First semester tuition and full capital fee due by 13 September 2019.
- Second semester tuition due by 30 January 2020.
- Registration fees for the 2020-21 school year due by 19 April 2020.
- New students only: capital fee and semester tuition are due two weeks after student’s first day of school or on the published due date for that semester, whichever is later. Subsequent payments must be paid on the published due dates.
The school year has two semesters. Tuition may be paid by semester if a student is not enrolled for the full school year. Application, registration and capital fees must be paid for the full year.
If a student is enrolled for a partial semester, tuition is charged as follows:
- Enrolled for fewer than 25 days: daily rate applied for the days enrolled
- Enrolled for 25 days or more: full semester tuition charged (half the annual tuition)
The daily rate is calculated as 1.5% of the semester tuition.
Finance charges are levied for late payment of school fees as follows, based on the invoice due date:
- Two weeks after due date: two point five percent (2.5%) of the total amount due.
- Between two and six weeks after due date: five percent (5%) of the total amount due.
If payments are not made within six weeks of the original due date, the child or children involved will not be permitted to attend classes or participate in school events until all tuition, fees and any accumulated finance charges for the entire semester (or entire year in the case of organizations) are paid in full.
All tuition and fee payments must be made in US dollars. Payment in USD may be made in cash, personal check, wire transfer, NR check or FCY check. Cash and checks may be submitted directly to the Cashier Office; cash payments over $2,000 must be submitted directly to Commercial Bank. Wire transfers may be made to our US bank. A non-refundable fee for the administrative costs of considering a new student application. Valid for one year after payment.
A non-refundable fee to reserve a space in the upcoming school year. Valid for one year after payment.
Supports the school’s capital improvements, including new construction as well as maintenance and replacement of existing facilities, and funds provision of classroom and residential furniture and technology needs. The annual capital fee is due in full and is not prorated.
Funds the operating costs of the school, including human resource costs, instructional materials, athletics and activities operations, technology resources and other operational requirements.
Specialized student support fees
Covers a portion of the cost of providing additional services such as occupational or speech therapy.
Little Eagles Camp
An extended day program for children enrolled in early childhood 3, staffed by teaching assistants.
In 2019-20, early childhood 4 students will have the option of a full day program that continues the morning curriculum, staffed by teachers.
May I pay in Ethiopian birr?
The school's expenses are primarily in US dollars, and therefore all parents are required to pay in hard currency.
May I pay with a credit card?
Credit cards are not currently accepted by ICS. Payments may be done by bank transfer, USD check or cash.
May I pay with a USD check?
USD checks may be submitted to the ICS cashier as well as by mail to our bank in the US. Foreign currency checks from Ethiopian banks are also accepted.

Our child will start class in the middle of the semester. Is tuition pro-rated?
Tuition is paid by semester, with two semesters in the year. The annual capital fee must be paid in full, regardless of the time enrolled.
If a student attends for less than 25 days in the semester, the tuition may be paid on a daily rate basis. This is calculated as 1.5% of the semester tuition. Contact the Business Office for further information.
Our child will start class in the middle of the semester. When is tuition due?
For a student who starts school after the first day of the semester, the tuition is due two weeks after his or her first day of school.
Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
Financial assistance is not available through ICS. We provide 16 full scholarships to Ethiopian students through our scholarship program, which is based on merit and open to rising grade 9 students. More information on the program is available HERE.
Does ICS provide any tuition discounts?
Families with more than two children are provided a small discount for tuition for any additional children. This applies to tuition only, not to any other fees.
What is the capital fee?

Is the application fee/registration fee refundable?
The application and registration fees are non-refundable, and are valid for one year after the date of payment.
