High School Principal, David Redmond
IBDP Exams IBDP exams are now underway and continue until May 19. Although our senior students no longer have classes, students continue to study in groups on campus – this is happening with impressive regularity, and we encourage students to continue this effective exam preparation practice. The campus remains open during regular school hours to students for this purpose. I would encourage all students to take advantage of our facilities in this regard.
Students are also encouraged to maintain a detailed calendar that includes study times, break times, as well as a little time set aside for leisure. Students who can manage their time most effectively are more likely to meet with success in exams. Please contact Ms. Heidi Zickefoose, our IBDP Coordinator, for more information on IBDP matters.
ICS High School Final Exams Final exams for all High School students take place from May 31 to June 6. More detailed information will be sent home next week, and each student will be given an individual exam schedule. As we approach the end of the year, please ensure that your children are well rested and prepared for these final assessments. Please also note that exams may not be given early for any reason, and all students MUST attend the final exam. Please do communicate with the High School Office if you anticipate that your child will be absent during the final weeks of the year.
MS/HS Concert Please join us on Wednesday 17 May for our MS/HS Choir Concert, “Music of the People, for the People”. Culminating activities such as these represent the incredible talent, dedication, and work of our teachers and students and are highlights of the ICS year. We look forward to seeing you there.
Important Graduation Information for Parents. For parents of seniors, please read this important graduation information. Students will be given their final ICS Checkout forms on Thursday, May 4. These forms are due in the HS Office no later than May 25 at 4:30 pm. Students may not participate in the Graduation Ceremony unless they have submitted form to the HS Office by that time.
High School Advisory: Stress Management and Suicide Prevention
Next week during Advisory, our counselors will be talking to our students about managing stress, developing effective responses to life challenges, distress, and mental illness, including suicide prevention. We would like to make students and parents aware of a current film on Netflix, 13 Reasons Why, which deals with the issue of teenage suicide. The film presents responses to suicide that are entirely contrary to the way that counsellors and psychologists believe that the matter should be discussed with adolescents. Please see a letter on this topic endorsed by our counsellors here. This is an extremely important subject for us to discuss with our students at ICS, where professionals can provide accurate information and guidance. For further information about suicide prevention and/or other social or emotional concerns, please contact Alicia Brown, Grade 9/10 Counselor, or Jim Barekman, Grade 11/12 College Counselor.
Families On The Move-Thank You! The middle and high school counselors want to thank the parents that were able to join us for our parent coffee: Families On The Move. We also want to share the presentation with families that were unable to attend. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to be in touch with our middle school counselor, Ms. Charmaine Gunther, or our high school counselors Ms. Alicia Brown and Mr. Jim Barekman. We wish you all the best and are here to support you and your children as you transition from ICS to your next home.
