ICS Scholarship, 2017-18

I am pleased to announce that we have selected four students to receive the ICS Scholarship, 2017-18. The selection process includes assessments in Mathematics and English and final interviews for short-listed candidates. One hundred and thirty-three students sat the written exams on April 1, 2017. The English Comprehension and Vocabulary and the Mathematics Section A tests were graded by ICS Teaching Assistants and Administrative Assistants. Essays were read and assessed by the HS Principal. Section B of the Mathematics tests was graded by members of the HS Mathematics department. The selection team is made up of the ICS Scholarship Coordinator, the ICS IBDP Coordinator, the Grade 9/10 High School Counselor, and the Grade 11/12 College Counselor. Interviews were held at ICS on April 22, 2017.  Current ICS Scholarship parents also assisted with interviews of the parents of short-listed candidates.

The four selected candidates are, in no particular order:

  • Nathnael Wondwossen Bekele (male), Gibson Youth Academy
  • Armon Jemal Ibrahim (female), Meserate Hiwot Church School

Families on the Move: Tuesday, May 2 from 9:00 - 10:00 in the Upper Commons

Are you leaving ICS at the end of the year? Are you worried about how to best support your student through this transition? Whether this is your first move or your seventh move, the ICS MS/HS counseling department invite you to join us for an opportunity to explore the process of transition and how to best support your student.  It will be a great time to connect with other parents who may also be leaving to lean on their experience and insight as well.  We look forward to our time together exploring this important topic.

United Kingdom University Planning for Grade 11 Parents

Mark your calendars!  On Wednesday, May 3rd from 8-9 a.m. in the Upper Commons, I will be presenting information about the process for applying to the United Kingdom.  It is a much simpler process than North America!  I will be joined by a local resource, Dr. Mabika, who will also talk about applying to a foundation year in the United Kingdom (for students who are not completing the IB Diploma and would follow this route to obtain a UK university education).
