High School

Thursday, September 22, 2016

Dear Parents, Below please find important information on current and upcoming events in the High School.

September 19 and 20

This week, all high school students were off-timetable for these two days for important activities that require extended learning time. Grade 9 and 10 students will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests and working on a project in Modern World History. Grade 10 students will also engage in a number of activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Grade 11 students are working on a group Science Project that develops personal and collaboration skills, and Grade 12 students are furthering their learning in Science by completing data completion in preparation for their internal assessments in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Systems and Societies and Physics.

We can report that 85% of our Science students finished their data collection over these two days, allowing them to move on to other aspects of the curriculum. Grade 11 students will finish the Group 4 project by September 23; likewise, getting this done early in the year will allow them to concentrate on the remaining aspects of the curriculum without being challenged to complete this important task. Next week, we will receive the results of the MAP tests for Grade 9 and 10 students and we will use these to plan instruction for the coming weeks.

Thank you to the parents of Grade 9 students for coming out to the Grade 9 Parent Night. We had about half of the class represented. It was a great opportunity to get to know one another and to share concerns and support for our students. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Alicia Brown, grade 9/10 counselor ( For a copy of the presentation, please click here.

Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD)

This year, we have once again engaged the services of Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD). FCD is a non-profit organization that provides substance abuse prevention education for schools worldwide. ICS teachers and FCD Prevention Specialists have planned three days of workshops and a special information session for parents and students on Thursday September 29 at 7:00 pm. The FCD visit offers a perfect opportunity to discuss addiction prevention, alcohol and drug-related issues with your children. We are happy to work in partnership with parents to educate our students on this crucial issue. Please come out to this evening event with your child as we take these measures for the health of our community. FCD is here at school until Friday, September 30. Parents are invited to contact the High School or the Middle School Office if you would like to arrange to visit with the team.

Otherwise, please enjoy the long weekend and remember that we welcome your feedback at any time.

Please continue to read the weekly Yezare Samint for important information regarding our high school program, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at for any matter pertaining to your child’s education.
