Safeguarding and Child Protection

ICS Addis is committed to our safeguarding process in order to prevent the risk of harm to children's health or development. Safeguarding children from harm works best when the entire community is involved. ICS expects all individuals and groups associated within our school community to act with integrity and to take responsibility for keeping students safe and included. Whether you are a staff member, a coach, tutor, contractor, guest, parent or visitor, it is our expectation that you will support our students and act with their well-being in mind at all times.

To ensure this happens, we ask that our students , our parents, and our faculty and staff are familiar with our child protection and safeguarding Handbook to educate themselves about how to identify and respond to concerns. As a member of our school community, we ask that you recognize your role and responsibility to safeguard students and to keep an eye out for one another.

Key Safeguarding Practices

Rigorous Approach to Suspected Abuse

Abuse of any form—be it physical, emotional, neglect, or sexual—can cause trauma and harm that may last a lifetime. At ICS, all reported incidents are taken with the highest seriousness and are managed with professional care, sensitivity, and confidentiality. Our safeguarding team ensures that concerns are investigated fairly and appropriately, prioritizing the protection of children and their wellbeing at every stage of the process.

Comprehensive Community Education

All ICS employees and contracted vendors complete regular safeguarding training to remain well-prepared to recognize and respond to potential signs of abuse, neglect, or suicidal ideation. Students across all three school sections receive age-appropriate learning about protecting themselves, recognizing physical and body language cues, and reporting to trusted adults. Families are also provided with periodic opportunities to educate themselves about safeguarding, ensuring our community shares a collective responsibility for child safety.

Safe Recruitment

ICS implements strict recruitment procedures to ensure every staff member and contracted vendor is properly vetted before joining the school community. All applicants undergo comprehensive background checks and must provide confidential references to confirm their professional and ethical integrity. Only qualified candidates with validated credentials are employed, ensuring our staff meet the highest safeguarding standards. This rigorous process is designed to protect students and uphold ICS’s commitment to child protection and wellbeing.

Clear Reporting Channels

ICS provides clear and accessible channels for students, parents, and staff to share any safeguarding concerns. Our designated safeguarding response team is trained and available at all times to provide guidance, listen, and act where necessary. Community members can raise issues directly with school leaders, counselors, or the safeguarding team, or use our confidential reporting form. Every concern is treated seriously, ensuring that children’s safety remains at the center of our response.
