PTO Launches Event Series to Celebrate Diversity & Community

The ICS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) kicked off its series of internationally hosted events on Tuesday with a breakfast from our host country.

Parents enjoyed at least ten different Ethiopian breakfast staples shared by our Ethiopian community. These included kinche -- a simple wheat dish -- as well as honey-soaked squares of the traditional street food known as fatira. The aroma of Ethiopian spiced tea and freshly roasted coffee beans filled the space as parents met and mingled in the community commons space overlooking the field. The Parent Community Commons is also now open daily as a space for parents to meet on campus, enjoy coffee and tea, and use wifi.

“A huge thanks to the Ethiopian parent community for sharing their culture and traditions with us over breakfast," PTO Chair Jen Sawyer said. "I can’t think of a better way to come together than through great food and great company."

Such international events are designed by the PTO to further strengthen the ICS community by celebrating and sharing our diversity. The next event will be on October 18.
