Parent Education

Parent Education

As a diverse and international school, at ICS we have families coming from all over the world with different learning backgrounds. At the same time, we firmly believe that student learning truly thrives with a school-parent partnership. This year, the elementary and middle school divisions have held several Parent Education sessions covering many topics such as Literacy, Socio-Emotional Learning, Child Protection, PLEx, and Middle Years Program. We have also had upper school guest speakers Jordan Hatter and Susie March speaking on the importance of Empathy and Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

These sessions are designed to inform parents and equip them with information, tools and strategies they can use at home. Parent Education at ICS focuses on sharing positive and supportive practices, educational support at home, age-appropriate learning, child development skills, and promoting positive play and interaction between parents and children.

“We want parents to understand what we are doing, how we are doing it, and why we are doing it. When they understand is when they will be able to give the proper support their children need at home.” - Chris McBride, Deputy MS Principal

At ICS, we strive to strengthen our partnership with parents in their children's education. Our goal is to help parents have a better understanding of the pedagogy at ICS, our learning process, and our educational framework through these educational sessions. When parents are aligned with the philosophy and practice of ICS, it maximizes their children’s ability to succeed.

In these educational sessions, parents are able to engage, ask questions and share their opinions. “We value parents, the partnership we have with them, we value their input, their connection with us, and their involvement in their child’s learning.” - Yodit Hizekiel, Deputy ES Principal
