Making Waves: Curricular Swimming Begins in Elementary PE

This semester marks an exciting milestone at ICS Addis — the launch of curricular swimming in Elementary Physical Education class!

For the first time, swimming lessons have become a core part of the ICS Addis PE program!
More than 200 students have already taken the plunge into our new on-campus pool, each experiencing the joy and confidence that comes from learning in the water.
From first strokes to freestyle, our PE and aquatics teams worked hand-in-hand to meet each child where they are.
Advanced swimmers refined their techniques. Improvers built strength and skill. Beginners and non-swimmers took their first strokes toward water confidence, learning to move safely and have fun in the process.

Collaboration between the Aquatics and PE departments has been and will remain key to the program’s success. The aquatics director, lifeguards, and PE teachers are guiding students through smooth transitions to and from the pool, ensuring that safety and enthusiasm go hand-in-hand.
“Being part of this first cycle of curricular swimming has been an incredible experience,” said PE Teacher Ian Minerve. “Swimming is more than a sport. It’s a life skill that opens up so many opportunities for children outside of school. Seeing their confidence grow in the water is something truly special.”
This is just the beginning for curricular swimming at ICS Addis. As more grades join the program and the Aquatics Center continues to evolve, students will have even greater opportunities to learn, play, compete, and thrive through swimming.
At ICS Addis, every splash is a step toward confidence, wellbeing, and lifelong learning — in and out of the pool.
