Launch of Eagles Leadership Program Empowers High School Students

ICS Addis is proud to launch the Eagles Leadership Program, an exciting new initiative that empowers our high school students to step forward as role models and leaders for their younger peers.

This program builds student leadership skills and strengthens our school community by bringing learners of different ages together in meaningful, impactful ways.

From coaching athletics to leading a range of clubs and activities, our high school Eagles are taking on leadership roles that allow them to share their passions, give back, and inspire others. It's yet another addition to the wide-ranging opportunities students have to engage with the community and make a valuable and positive impact.

In its very first season, the program already boasts an impressive number and variety of activities—reflecting the diverse interests and talents of our students.

“The Eagles Leadership Program is all about empowering our students to make an impact in their community,” Athletics & Activities Director David Williams said. “By giving them the chance to lead, we are reinforcing our school’s mission while also creating a stronger community bond between our divisions. It’s been inspiring to see how much our high school students have embraced this opportunity.”

One of the highlights of the program’s launch has been the enthusiasm from younger students, who benefit from learning and growing alongside mentors who were once in their shoes. High school leaders, in turn, gain real-world experience in teamwork, communication, and service—skills that will stay with them long after they leave ICS Addis.

For Grade 11 student Yande H., the Eagles leadership program has given her an opportunity to improve her communication skills, develop responsibility, and create connections with her younger peers. One stand-out moment took place while coaching Elementary School Rugby. After explaining a drill, students were confused and disorganized, so she was forced to break down the drill into smaller steps, revise the way she communicated her instructions, and try again.

"Coaching younger students in sports has been especially meaningful because it allows me to practice leadership and service in a real-world setting, while also providing younger students with positive role models," Yande said. "Through this experience, I’ve learned how important it is to adapt my communication to different age groups. Learning how to make those adjustments has taught me patience and creativity, which are valuable not only in sports but also in group projects, future jobs, or any situation that requires working with others."

Looking ahead, the Eagles Leadership Program promises to keep growing. With strong interest from students and support from faculty, the program is set to expand its reach each season, offering even more opportunities for leadership and community connection.

“This is just the beginning,” David added. “As the program evolves, we will continue to open doors for our students to share their talents, mentor their peers, and celebrate what it means to be part of the ICS Addis community. And as our Eagle leaders graduate, we hope they take what they have learned through this program to take the lead and make an impact in their greater local and global communities."
