ISSEA Events

ISSEA, The International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa; is an association that manages competitive athletic tournaments and cultural conferences that include STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics), Visual Arts, Drama, Choir, Band, Basketball, Tennis, Swimming, Soccer, Track & Field and Volleyball for member schools. ICS is one of its founding members since 1998.

There are eight schools that are part of ISSEA. The member schools are, the American International School of South Africa (AISJ), American International School of Mozambique (AISM), American International School of Lusaka (AISL), International Community School of Addis Ababa (ICS), American International School of Kenya (AISK), Harare International School (HIS), American International School of Tanganyika (AIST) and American International School of Uganda (AISU).

The last time ICS held an ISSEA event was 2 years ago prior to the Covid pandemic. This year’s ISSEA events are both virtual and in person. In November, the cross country and track & field tournaments were virtual. All schools held their own event trials, sharing videos and live streaming the events with each other. All the results were recorded. ICS won 2nd place for both boys’ and girls’ championships. Plus, ICS teams also won several individual medals as well.

In February, the ISSEA Soccer and Volleyball tournaments were in person and were hosted by AISJ and AIST. Both the boys’ and girls' teams were very competitive, though unfortunately did not result in a win.

The ICS girls team were awarded two Fair Play Awards and four of our students, Hana M, Delina I, Charles G, and Michael D were awarded All-Tournament Players. This is a huge accomplishment for the students and ICS Addis as a school.

The ISSEA Band and Choir conference was also a virtual event. Students practiced for weeks for their group and solo performances. ICS “hosted” the online event showcasing the hard work of our students, our band and choir programs, and our campus. Parents, teachers, and employees were able to see the performances and listen to the music played by all the ISSEA schools and it was a wonderful event.

In March, the ISSEA Drama conference was also conducted virtually, with AISJ being the host school. All students contributed to different workshops and were showing small performances throughout the event.

In the coming month, we are expecting to have ISSEA basketball from the 6 - 10 of April 2022 at ISK. Another tournament we are expecting is an ISSEA invitational competition that will take place in May at AISM and ISSEA Visual Arts conference that will take place in the coming weeks.

ICS Addis is looking forward to the coming school year 2022-23, as we will be hosting the ISSEA Volleyball tournament. After two long years, we are excited to have other international schools visit us and give them the ICS experience.
