ICS Set to Continue Tradition of Excellence as IB Continuum School

ICS Addis is becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School.

In a message to parents last week, ICS Leadership announced its decision to expand the implementation of its IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework to Grade 9 in August 2023 and Grade 10 students in August 2024.

“As a global leader in international education, we are excited to continue to expand the ways we continuously innovate and improve our teaching and learning at ICS Addis,” High School Principal James Brightman said. “The MYP and our status as a Continuum School will provide our students and teachers access to resources, networks, and strategies that empower us to continue offering the best possible educational experience.”

The ICS Addis school community is diverse and transient. The move to implement the MYP at ICS ensures alignment of language, philosophy, and values throughout a student's education. It also encourages continuity of high-quality learning for students as their families come to Addis from around the globe and move on to continue their education at international schools and specialized universities worldwide.

ICS Middle Years Programme Coordinator Monique Palmer said students at ICS are engaged in a journey that uses real-world issues to help them understand major concepts and develop skills that allow them to make a positive impact in their local and global communities. Students reflect on the learning process and discover themselves as learners, building portfolios of research and evidence which demonstrate their growth in different subjects and how learning connects to life beyond the classroom.
