ICS Launches Alumni Corner at the PTO Community Market

ICS Launches Alumni Corner at the PTO Community Market

The first PTO Community Market of the school year is happening this Saturday 30 August on the ICS campus, and there is a new initiative spotlighting our amazing alumni each month!

As one of Addis Ababa’s biggest and best markets, the Community Market organized by our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has become a beloved tradition for families, featuring vendors offering handicrafts, artwork, clothing, gourmet food, gifts, and more.

This year, ICS is excited to launch a new initiative: the ICS Alumni Corner. This dedicated space will become a new staple at the monthly market, spotlighting the talents, passions, and professional journeys of our alumni.

The initiative not only gives our community the opportunity to reconnect with and celebrate former students, but also provides our alumni with a platform to showcase and sell their work.

Meet Our First Alumni Corner Vendor: Abel Tekleyes

We are proud to introduce Abel Tekleyes, the first featured artist in the ICS Alumni Corner. Abel attended ICS from Grade 2 through Grade 10 (2008–2016), and he has gone on to pursue his passion for art. Specializing in traditional Ethiopian artwork and portrait painting, Abel will have his unique creations available for sale at this Saturday’s market.

When reflecting on his time at ICS, Abel shared some of his favorite memories:

  • Times with Ms. Paula and Ms. Jenna Pabalate
  • Grade 4 with Ms. Hezikiel (2010–2011)
  • One of his art pieces being published as the cover for the band performance program in 2011
  • Doing art after school with Mr. Raguel and Mr. Leo Lefort
  • ISSEA Track and Field in 2014
  • Art class in 9th grade (2015) with Ms. Laura Bluewaters
  • Art class in 10th grade (2015) with Ms. Lia Hansen-Cohen
  • PE class and working as an assistant with Mr. Friesen

Join us this Saturday to enjoy the vibrant market atmosphere, discover local treasures, and support the incredible work of ICS alumni like Abel Tekleyes.
