ICS Celebrates Host Country Culture at PTO Breakfast

The ICS Parent Teacher Organization kicked off its International Breakfast and Afternoon Tea series on Thursday with a celebration of our host country.
The newly renovated Parent Community Commons set the scene for a celebration of culture and community, as more than 100 ICS parents and family members enjoyed delicious food, traditional coffee, and music. A big thanks goes out to all of the members of the PTO and, in particular, the volunteers from our Ethiopian community who made this such an incredibly welcoming, fun, and informative event.
Taking place just days after the celebration of Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year holiday, ICS high school students from the Ethiopian Studies program performed a dance, lead a cultural quiz for ICS prizes, and raised money to donate to a New Year celebration for Ethiopian staff.
"We are so lucky at ICS Addis to have a community which is inclusive and celebrates our diversity in so many creative ways," PTO Chair Charlotte Bierstee said. "I am grateful to the members of our host country who volunteered to share their rich traditions, culture, and delicious cuisine with all of us. As parents, we all felt connected today to each other as a community and to this place. We are looking forward to more international breakfast and afternoon tea events to come!"
