ICS Addis Wins Global Inclusion Award

We are thrilled to announce that the International Community School of Addis Ababa (ICS Addis) has been honored with the prestigious Global Inclusion Award by the International Forums of Inclusion Practitioners (IFIP). This esteemed recognition celebrates our unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment.
The Global Inclusion Awards, launched and celebrated at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in March 2024, recognize organizations worldwide that demonstrate exceptional dedication to inclusion and diversity in education.
Our nomination was spearheaded by Lauren Jones, a CIS Affiliated Education and Leadership Consultant, who highlighted several key aspects of our inclusive practices:
- Community Endorsement: Lauren reached out to the community for nominations and feedback, and ICS Addis received commendations from colleagues and peers around the world for our inclusive environment.
- Student Transition Program: Our program was highlighted for its commitment to supporting students with intensive needs and offering alternative paths to graduation.
- Empowerment of Host Country National Teachers: Our dedication to elevating and training Ethiopian teachers to lead inclusion initiatives at ICS Addis was recognized as a significant contribution to sustainable inclusion.
"ICS Addis was nominated because of your commitment to continued expansion and enhancement of inclusion in your community,” Lauren said. “Your Student Transition Program was a highlight for the nomination, as it shows your commitment to more intensive needs and alternative paths to graduation."
This award is a testament to the collective efforts of our students, faculty, and community members who strive daily to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this achievement and reaffirm our commitment to advancing inclusion within our school community.
“This recognition affirms our commitment to creating a school where every student belongs and thrives. This award aligns with our mission to empower students to lead with integrity and our vision of a more inclusive, connected world,” Head of School Earl Chamberlin said. “We are incredibly proud to receive the Global Inclusion Award, as it reflects our ongoing dedication to ensuring that every student, family, and educator feels seen, supported, and valued. This honor reinforces our commitment to inclusive practices that align with our core values of community, learning, and diversity."
