Holiday Renovations Enhance Learning and Community Spaces

You have probably already noticed.

The ICS campus has gone through a number of renovations and transformations during the holiday break.

Students, teachers, and families are walking into upgraded learning spaces, enhanced common areas, and brand new projects aimed at sustainability, innovative learning, and community building.

The ICS Facilities team were responsible for more than 100 projects during the holiday time while our community was away from school, and we are so grateful for their dedication! Some of the key projects, as highlighted by ICS Project Support Director Tadesse Woudneh include:

  • The completion of the borewell construction has been a tremendous success for our school. In an area where water yield was limited to less than 2.5 liters per second, our new borewell now produces an impressive 10 liters per second. Considering the substantial water consumption in the school compound, especially during the dry season (150-200 cubic meters per day), this accomplishment is truly noteworthy (#1 on the report).
  • The construction of the aquaponics and pergola construction for high school is underway and will be completed in cooperation with the high school science teachers and students. This system will be turned into a self-sustaining ecosystem with live fish that irrigates the high school's vegetable garden. (#3 on the report)
  • There have been significant enhancements to various areas by building and installing customized furniture for several classrooms in the Middle School, Early Years buildings,  the band room, Health Office, EY-5, and other designated locations (# 9, 10, 11, 51, etc. on the report)
  • The renovation of the high school walkway's covered roof is now completed, providing improved safety and comfort for our students and community. (#2 on the report)
  • Several security grant projects have been implemented, including the installation of a master key system for buildings, heavy-duty and fire-rated doors for the safe haven and fitness center, and the implementation of intrusion detection systems and electric fences. (#4, 16)
  • Renovations to the Parent Community Commons, which includes construction and provision of a working table, space-dividing panels, benches, a counter for a coffee machine, roll-down shades, and a new coffee machine. (# 6, 7, 8)
