High School Students Take Over as Teachers in Elementary PE

It was an inspirational week in the Elementary School physical education (PE) classes.
High School PE students took over the classes and led their younger peers in a series of games and activities. For Elementary students, it was a chance to connect and have fun with students they look up to while taking part in health and fitness classes. High School learners also benefitted, enhancing their learning experiences by translating them into activities appropriate for younger students while practicing leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Physical Education Teacher Matt Taylor said the unit was organized to nurture relationships, foster cohesion, and instill a sense of collective responsibility. The activities were designed to cultivate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
"By immersing themselves in this learning, students not only gained practical experience but also developed a heightened sense of teamwork, cooperation, and the ability to take ownership of their actions," Matt said. "This holistic approach aimed to empower our students with the confidence and competence required to create enriching active experiences for elementary learners. Through experiences like these, we aim to foster a sense of pride and ownership in their community - in their community school."
