High School Photographers Capture Addis Ababa's Beauty

High School Photographers Capture Addis Ababa's Beauty

Seven High School photographers spent the day on a photo excursion around Addis Ababa.

The aim was to encourage the students in the Photography class to become more aware of their surroundings, become more observant, look for beauty in unsuspecting places, and apply the basic 9 composition principles they are studying.

Check out a collection of some of their photos here. ICS parents can see the complete collection of photos on Vidiagmi.

“The vibrant city of Addis Ababa is teeming with beauty at every corner,” Teacher Joshua Smalley said. “Every person, every merchant, every family, every smile, every building, every street, and every color all combine for palette of opportunity for photographers. Students grew in just a few hours from shy, apprehensive learners in new environments, to confident, beauty-seeking photographers. Their appreciation for the difficulty of adjusting to different environments to capture the story transpiring around them represented a step of growth.”

For the past six years, class trips for photography have focused on wildlife tracking, but this year was different. Joshua said he and the students loved the experience, recommending it to their peers in the next cohort.

This class photography trip is a great example of the types of deep, impactful learning experiences ICS Addis offers its students. Find out more about opportunities for trips and travel for ICS Addis students here.
