French en Action: Stories Meant to Be Shared

Il était une fois, MYP students became authors, storytellers, and mentors—bringing French to life for a room full of eager Grade 5 listeners.

In their Middle Years Programme (MYP) French Phase 4 unit on tales and legends, students moved beyond studying stories to becoming storytellers themselves.

After exploring the essential elements of narrative—character, setting, conflict, and moral—they wrote and published original French stories that reflected both creativity and deep language learning.

The learning came full circle when the MYP students visited a Grade 5 French class to share their work. As the younger students listened, they engaged with the stories, working to understand the language, interpreting meaning, and guessing the moral of each tale.

The classroom buzzed with curiosity, laughter, and thoughtful discussion.

“Sharing their stories with younger students gave our MYP writers a real sense of purpose while building meaningful connections across our school community,” said MYP French Teacher Pascaline Dacharry. “It was a joyful exchange where older students became confident storytellers and younger students became active listeners and thinkers, bringing language learning to life through connection, creativity, and community.”
