Ethiopian Studies Class Makes Donation to Support Orphanages

A recent collaboration between our Ethiopian Studies class and a local organization was a shining example of the “ICS Way” of caring for others.
Love and Care, founded in 2012, works to address the physical and emotional needs of over 5.5 million orphans and vulnerable children in Ethiopia. The organization empowers orphanages and provides critical support to those in need.
This year, our Ethiopian Studies class played a key role in extending this support.
During the Enkutatash (Ethiopian New Year) celebration, our students sang traditional songs such as Hoya Hoye and Abebayehosh during a breakfast hosted by Ethiopian parents. This joyful event wasn’t just about celebrating—it was about giving back. Thanks to the generosity of our parent community, the students raised over 30,000 birr.
Recognizing the urgent needs of shelters facing reduced donor support, our Focus on Service student-run fundraising club contributed an additional 47,000 birr. With these funds, the students were able to provide essential supplies including lentils, pasta, macaroni, flour, tea, soaps, sanitizers, water, oil, and even a TV with a decoder for the Safety Home Center, a shelter for street children identified as especially vulnerable.
This partnership exemplifies the spirit of our school community—one where learning is connected to real-world impact and where acts of kindness ripple far beyond our campus.
Through these efforts, ICS Addis continues to nurture a culture of empathy, leadership, and global citizenship. Whether through raising funds, donating time, or partnering with organizations like Love and Care, we are proud to empower our students to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
