Peer Tutoring Club Seeks to Empower & Build Community

At ICS Addis, student-led initiatives play a vital role in shaping the school’s culture of service, collaboration, and empowerment. This year, a group of high school students took that mission to heart by launching the ICS Peer Tutoring Club, a new after-school activity that provides academic support for middle and elementary school students.

Founded by high schoolers Henon M., Seunghun Y., Pieter R., and Sophia V., the club was created with a clear vision: to make learning more enjoyable and accessible for all students.

“No student should have to dread a certain class or feel left behind—we want to change that,” said Sophia, the club’s communications officer.

Since its launch, the club has grown steadily, with tutors working one-on-one with Middle School students to build confidence and understanding in various subjects. As the initiative gained momentum, it has become an official After-School Activity (ASA) for Middle and Elementary school students.

More than just an academic support system, the ICS Peer Tutoring Club embodies the school’s values of community and service.

“It shows the ICS Way of helping others when you can,” Sophia explained. “We interact with students we might not see every day because of the age gap, but this brings us together as a community.”

The club’s leaders are excited about the impact they are making and the culture of mentorship they are building. Their ultimate goal? To create a welcoming, student-led space where younger peers feel supported—not because they have to attend tutoring, but because they want to.

As the club continues to grow, its founders are proving that leadership, service, and learning go hand in hand at ICS Addis. Through peer support, they are strengthening the school’s commitment to empowering every student to succeed.
