Early Years Learners Explore ICS Community Helpers

Early Years Learners Explore ICS Community Helpers

It's been an exciting month for our 4-year-old learners at ICS, as they explore different ways people make positive impacts in the community.

For the last several weeks, students in Early Years 4 (EY4) have been immersed in their Who We Are Unit. Their learning is based on the Central Idea, "People can help make their community a better place."

Students and teachers had a wonderful opportunity to inquire into our community at ICS. We visited several locations around campus and met a variety of community helpers to discover how these individuals take care of this place, which is one of the pillars of the ICS Way.

Students had the opportunity to share which community members they would like to work with.

In small groups, we spent time helping and learning about our bankers, chefs, cleaners, gardeners, guards, maintenance staff, office staff, and principals. Amongst many duties, students helped in the snack bar, did playground duty at recess, cleaned the Pavilion, guarded the ATM as it was filled up, helped build a coat rack, and planted some seedlings. Everyone they interacted with was caring and supportive and our students learned so much.

The next step is to show appreciation for our community helpers by sharing some EY4 made cakes and thank you cards.
