Creating Space for Community: Renovations & New Services in Parent Commons

ICS values the home-school partnership, and we invite families to be on campus to build community and enjoy the facilities.

The Parent Community Commons, which is on the second floor of the building overlooking the ICS Field, is a dedicated space for families to enjoy during school hours. The facility underwent several enhancements during the break from school, and we are excited to share them with our community.

Parents and family members are welcome to use the space and wifi internet access for social gatherings and personal endeavors. The space evolved beautifully during the break with improvements including:

  • the installation of an African-themed mural designed and installed by ICS students,
  • the construction of a service bar, at which parents can order coffee, tea, breakfast food, and other food and drinks,
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:30-9:00 AM and 3:00-4:30 PM
    • Wednesday: 7:30-9:00 AM
  • and the building of several new pieces of furniture to diversify seating and gathering opportunities.

On top of informal space for gathering, the Parent Community Commons is also used for several events and activities organized by the Parent Teacher Organization, including a range of exercise classes, several different clubs, the International Breakfast & Afternoon Tea series, and more.

As the commons continues to evolve with new furniture, interior design, and technology resources, it will increase the flexibility and utility of this family space.

"Parents and families make up an essential part of our ICS community, and we want everyone to feel welcome and included on the ICS campus," Acting PTO Chair Charlotte Bierstee said. "We are grateful for the school and the PTO members who have put time into enhancing our on-campus experience, and I invite everyone to feel welcome to use the space and enjoy the incredible services available to us."
