Community Engagement Day Fosters Connections to Make an Impact

Community Engagement Day Fosters Connections to Make an Impact

by Siham Omar, High School Faculty

Our Grade 9 and 10 students embarked on a day filled with meaningful community interactions and impactful activities as part of our Community Engagement Day on January 28th. This day was a testament to our commitment to giving back to our community and fostering strong relationships with our partners.

This event marked our second Community Engagement Day of the year, complementing our weekly Turn Up Tuesday (TUT) sessions and emphasizing our dedication to service and community involvement beyond the classroom.

The students were divided into teams and dispersed across six different locations within our community, each serving a unique purpose. These locations included Kebebe Tsehay orphanage, Brookhills, Love and Care, TAPCCO, Cure Hospital and  Mekedonia. Each site provided an opportunity for our students to engage with different aspects of our community and make a positive impact.

From painting murals at Kebebe Tsehay orphanage to engaging in card games and storytelling sessions with senior citizens at Mekedonia, the day was filled with a diverse range of activities aimed at spreading joy and making a difference in the lives of others.

At Love and Care, a team of students took on the role of chefs and storytellers, preparing burgers for community members and captivating young children with engaging story readings. Meanwhile, at TAPCCO, our students not only played with the children but also learned how to make mats through weaving under the guidance of the parents of the children, fostering connections and understanding within the community.

Through these initiatives, our students exemplified profound compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to give back to their community. The Community Engagement Day served as a platform for service and outreach, highlighting the power of community and collaboration in creating a more inclusive and caring society.

As we reflect on the success of Community Engagement Day, we extend our sincere gratitude to our community partners, students, and staff for their unwavering support and dedication. Together, we have shown that small acts of kindness and service have the power to create ripples of positivity and bring about meaningful change in our community.

We look forward to continuing our journey of community engagement and service, inspired by the spirit of compassion and unity that defines us as a school community.
