Career Week Inspires Students from Early Years to Grade 12

At ICS Addis, learning goes far beyond the classroom walls.

Career Week 2025 was a dynamic, week-long event designed to expose students to a diverse array of professions and inspire them to explore their own aspirations. With experts from various fields—ranging from aerospace engineering to hospitality, city planning to law—students had the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into different career pathways and engage in meaningful discussions with professionals.
Throughout the week, students heard from accomplished individuals like Nate Woods, an aerospace and aviation engineer, who shared his experiences navigating the world of aviation and space technology. Agricultural scientist Rod Lefroy gave students a glimpse into the world of sustainable farming and international rural development, while Jens Aerts, a city planner, discussed the complexities of designing and managing urban spaces. In addition, Karin Steiner provided insights into the hospitality industry, detailing the intricacies of hotel management and customer experience.
The event was structured to engage students at all levels, from elementary to high school, ensuring that even the youngest learners could begin thinking about their futures. In the lower grades, hands-on and age-appropriate presentations, such as Charlotte Forest’s session on psychology for Grade 4 students and a fascinating look at aerospace with Grade 3, helped students connect real-world careers to their daily learning.

The entire week, which was organized in a collaborative effort by the school’s counseling team, capped off with a fun dress-up day on Friday, giving students the chance to “walk in the shoes” of the people in their future careers.
"Career Week is about opening doors for our students and helping them see what’s possible," Counselor Angela Mack said. "The exposure to professionals across different industries broadens their horizons and encourages them to dream big."
The overwhelming success of this year’s Career Week has set the stage for an even bigger and better event next year. With plans to include an even more diverse range of professions—spanning science, technology, the arts, entrepreneurship, and beyond—ICS Addis remains committed to ensuring that students are well-equipped for their future, no matter where their passions lead them.
As students continue to reflect on the inspiring conversations they had throughout the week, one thing is clear: the future is full of possibilities, and Career Week is helping ICS students take their first steps toward exciting and meaningful careers.
