Activites & Athletics News, Mick Cooper, Athletics and Activities Director

What an incredible 3 days of Track and Field we had last week on campus. Over 460 athletes threw, jumped or ran in the annual 8 school ISSAAA meet. There were some amazing performances in all six age/gender categories and ICS rocked this event taking all but one first place banner away from it. Congratulations to the 87 ICS athletes, the many parents watching and the 40 plus marshals who made this event run so smoothly. It was just like been at the Rio Olympics!

Our 2 ICS U14 Boys’ Basketball teams had a great battle for the 3rd place banner here on Monday. The Grade 8's showed their experience in a tight match to win the banner but well done to both teams on entertaining us this season.

Final Season 1 Games this week:

U14 Girls basketball play @ Sandford for the 3rd place banner

U19 Girls Volleyball take on Bingham@ Bingham in the 1st place game

U19 Boys Volleyball take on Andinet @ Bingham for the 3rd place banner

U12 Girls have their last soccer encounter at Bingham-depart Campus at 8.10 and they should be back around 12.30/13.00

U12 Boys also go on a road trip for their last encounter @Sandford-depart ICS 9.30 back around 14.00

Season 2

Its a sign of the busy times at ICS that our athletic students end Season 1 High School Sports Friday night and then begin Season 2 Saturday morning for U16 and U19 basketball and U14-U19 Rugby! Times are posted on the white board outside the gym for these teams. This board always has up to date weekly information on it and is the go to place for schedules, which can change daily.

Next Monday, U14 Soccer teams kick off their season while the U12's have a small break before they begin on November 28th in Volleyball. All students wishing to play season 2 sports do need to register online on the school website (Athletics>Registration>click the correct team box) and bring back the signed code of conduct/permission forms that are located outside the ASA office back to the office.

The opportunity to review the season, present awards and thank our coaches and players in U14/U16/ U19 sports is next Wednesday, November 23rd. All athletes and immediate family members in these teams are invited to attend and students should bring a food dish to share on this awards night.  Students should go home at regular time Wednesday and come back to school at17.00 for a prompt 17.30 start in the gym. This evening is always a great celebration and not to be missed.

ES sign up was this Tuesday. We increased minimum numbers in each ASA and we increased the number of offerings too, among other small tweaks to try and allow all students better opportunities. This certainly seemed to be beneficial to the majority of users this season.

MS Season 2 ASA sign up will occur in advisory Friday morning, while HS sign up is more informal but opens too at 8.00am Friday.

International Trips

Planning is well under way and commitment to the January/February trips will need to be made shortly. Please keep an eye on the trip posters outside my office so that deadlines and protocols are adhered too.
