The International Community School of Addis Ababa is a premier early childhood through grade 12 school offering a holistic, vigorous and inclusive program. An International Baccalaureate Diploma school, accredited in the United States, ICS serves a diverse, multi-cultural student body on a beautiful, well-equipped campus

Strategic Plan

A strategic plan is necessary to help us set the direction and priorities for ICS Addis over the next three to five years. This plan helps us to identify our view of success and shape the activities and actions that will make us achieve it.

This plan serves to unify all ICS stakeholders into supporting a single set of focused priorities. This plan will be shared with our staff, our families and our greater ICS community.

Strategic Objectives: An uncompromising commitment to achieve specific, measurable, observable or demonstrable results that exceed current capability. In our case, the measures are included in a second set of documents, and some of them are reported to the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Specific Results: Bold resolutions that dedicate the school's resources and energies toward the continuous creation of results to achieve the extraordinary as expressed in the mission, vision and strategic objectives.

Action Steps: A planned action or method to be implemented that supports a strategic objective. It is the means to the end. The steps necessary to achieve a specific result, and ultimately the strategic objective.

Status/Progress Indicators: A system to keep us informed of all action steps, specific results and objectives.

ICS Learner Profile

The aim of all programs at ICS Addis is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet help to create a better and more peaceful world. As ICS learners, we strive to be:

Inquirers. We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.


Open-Minded. We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.

Knowledgeable. We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

Caring. We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
